Here are a few ways which you can get involved in supporting YMCA Barnsley, each of these options all have a significant effect so get involved!

Membership

We appreciate and thank you for your interest in becoming a member of YMCA Barnsley. Initially people join our organisation as an associate member. After tweleve months Associate members can then apply for nomination and election for full YMCA membership  enabling them to be eligible for nomination and election to the Board of Trustees if they so wished.

Our membership includes our trustees and board members, peer supporters, young volunteers and adult volunteers, children, young people & their families and key supporters.

We encourage our members to

• Uphold the Christian ethos
• Get involved
• Support and attend events and activities
• support fundraising activities e.g. donate prizes for raffles, invite guests to events, give their time in helping to organise events
• Promote the organisation where ever possible
• Offer their expertise

Hire our facilities

Whether you are looking for a suitable venue for a large or small event we have the facilities to suit all requirements. We have a sports hall with changing and shower facilities and a self-contained community hall with a fully equipped kitchen. Our meeting spaces can accommodate 1-200 people and are set within our town centre premises at Blucher Street, Barnsley and just a five minute drive from Junction 37 of the M1. Our rooms are suitable for almost any event, from interviews, meetings, training and board meetings. We also have shop space for hire which can be used for a range of different companies.

Allotment & Community Orchards

We have an allotment that we use in our work with children and young people and two community orchards that we manage in partnership with Yorkshire Wildlife Trusts. We have plenty of opportunities for members to get involved and learn about growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables.  Our outdoor green spaces provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature, meet other people, learn and share knowledge and skills and we always share the produce!

We are always seeking enthusiastic, green fingered individuals to help with the upkeep of our allotment and orchards.

Our volunteering positions offer a great way for you to learn new skills, build new friendships and contribute to your local community. It may also enhance your CV and job prospects for the future!

There are plenty of ways you can get involved and opportunities for you to embrace. Our volunteers include trustees, support our children’s and youth work, help with our allotment & orchards, support our work with the homeless and vulnerable, and help us with events and fundraising.

Fundraising

There are hundreds of unique, exciting ways that you can help YMCA Barnsley to raise funds to support more children, young people and those who are vulnerable and homeless.

We hold regular fundraising and social events, coffee mornings and raffle and we are always keen to hear from others who are interested in getting involved and supporting our fundraising.
