About us

We are an independent local charity that works for and with children, young people and their families delivering high quality children’s and youth work programmes. We provide a safe and welcoming space and positive activities supporting participants so they can belong, contribute and thrive in their communities. We have been an active part of our community since 1857 and have an established reputation as a deliverer of youth services.

We provide affordable, quality facility hire for other charities, organisations and local groups, including a community hall, training room and a sports hall. We also support those who are homeless and vulnerable through guidance and referral, shower and laundry facilities.

YMCA believes in fairness and opportunity.

There are essential building blocks for a full and rewarding life: a safe home; acceptance; guidance; friendship; physical and mental health; academic support; employment skills; and access to real opportunities.

Many young people have never known these things; other people have lost one or more as they grew up, but we all need them. All of us. At YMCA, we provide these critical foundations for a fresh, strong start for young people and a better quality of life in the community.
